How to share a chat with someone (and actually talk about it together)

"How do I share a chat?" usually means one of two very different things. Either you want to show someone a conversation you already had with an AI, or you want to have a conversation with them and an AI at the same time. The first is a link. The second is a room. Most guides only cover the first.

Option 1: Share a link to a transcript

Every major assistant can hand you a read-only link. In ChatGPT, open the chat, tap the share icon, and copy the link — anyone with it can read the conversation up to that point. Claude, Gemini and Poe have their own version of the same thing.

This is great for one job: proving what the AI said. It's terrible for the job people usually want it for, which is winning a disagreement. What actually happens next is your partner reads the transcript, notices the AI only heard your side, and now you're arguing about the screenshot instead of the thing.

Option 2: Share the conversation itself

The alternative is to invite the other person into the chat, so the AI hears from both of you and answers you both at once. ChatGPT added group chats for this in late 2025; Poe has them too. The rule of thumb: if you want someone to read what the AI told you, send a link. If you want the AI to be fair to both of you, put them in the room.

How to share a chat in SharedChat

  1. Open the room (or start a new one and pick what it's for).
  2. Tap Share, then either send the link or tap Text an invite to open it straight in Messages.
  3. They tap the link. They can read right away, and they're in the conversation the moment they sign in — about ten seconds, free.
  4. From then on, everyone in the room sees every reply live, at the same time.

A note on privacy

A link is only as private as the people you send it to. In SharedChat, rooms are private by default and only become link-readable when you choose to share them that way. If a conversation was meant to be just yours, keep it that way and start a fresh room for the shared one.

Sharing a chat should mean sharing the conversation — not handing over a screenshot as evidence. Start a room and invite the person you're actually talking about.
